Audience and Prerequisites

This course is intended for experienced System Administrators and Support Staff who will deploy, operate, and maintain IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager 4.2.3. This course will also assist in preparing the student for Tivoli certification exam #870 (ITCM 4.2.x). You can verify your knowledge by taking this sample test. The course fully covers all the ITCM 4.2.3 components like Software Distribution and Inventory. Moreover, it covers the required basic Framework knowledge to properly implement and use ITCM 4.2.x. However, the Framework content is not a substitute for the full Tivoli Infrastructure 4.1.1 course. The Tivoli Infrastructure 4.1.1 course is not a prerequisite to take the ITCM 4.2.3 Workshop, therefore it can be taken before or after the ITCM course.

Candidate students are expected to have a working knowledge of hardware and software concepts for Windows PC operating systems and UNIX. Students should also have experience installing commercial desktop applications programs on typical client types in their environment. Previous experience with older versions of the product like ITCM 4.1 can help but is not a requirement.

Objectives

By the end of the course, students will have the necessary skills and knowledge to:

- Identify the main features of ITCM 4.2.3
- Successfully plan for and install the different components of ITCM 4.2.3
- Learn how to efficiently work with ITCM 4.2.3
- Create flexible SoftwarePackages using the SoftwarePackage Editor
- Distribute SoftwarePackages using the Unicast and Multicast capabilities
- Use Native Packaging support like Windows MSI or AIX installp
- Distribute to and scan pervasive devices (PDAs) like Palms or Pocket PCs
- Understand the Integration between the Software Distribution and Inventory components
- Create and submit Activity Plans
- Automatically maintain software on desktop and mobile computers using the Change Manager
- Distribute to users defined in Enterprise Directories
- Install, configure and use the Tivoli Mobile Console and the Web User Interface
- Troubleshoot ITCM 4.2.3
- Manage files on target computers with the Data Moving Service
- Perform Pristine Installations
